HURRICANE EARL - NOTICE OF IMMEDIATE AVAILABILITY TO ATTEND

Industry Colleagues:

As the 2010 Atlantic Hurricane Season continues, you can be assured that all of us at the Braemar Group of Companies are keeping a close eye on all the activity. Currently, Hurricanes Danielle has moved north and is not presenting any major threat. Earl is making its way across the Atlantic and as of 11:00AM EST today Earl’s status is as follows:

HURRICANE EARL

This is a strong, category-3, 120 mph hurricane about 95 miles east north-northeast of St. Thomas and 165 miles east of San Juan. Over the next few days, Earl is expected to steadily strengthen. Earl was moving to the west-northwest near 15 miles per hour across the northern Leeward Islands. A hurricane watch and tropical storm warning are now in effect for Puerto Rico. A tropical storm warning is in effect for Antigua, Barbuda, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis. Storm surge will be as much as 1 to 5 feet on top of large battering waves. Rainfall in some mountain locations could top 12 inches. Flash flooding and mudslides are likely. Earl is anticipated to head northward, threatening the U.S. Eastern Seaboard by midweek. By tomorrow, it is anticipated that dangerous rip currents and swells generated by Earl will impact the Southeast Atlantic coast (including Florida’s East Coast).

CURRENT PROJECTION:

Hurricane Earl Projection

LATEST FROM NOAA NEXT STORM TO BE NAMED FIONA SHOULD NOT TO BE FORGOTTEN:

SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE GRADUALLY BECOMING BETTER ORGANIZED IN ASSOCIATION WITH A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM LOCATED ABOUT 1050 MILES EAST OF THE LESSER ANTILLES. IF THIS TREND CONTINUES...A TROPICAL DEPRESSION COULD FORM LATER TODAY OR TONIGHT AS THIS SYSTEM MOVES GENERALLY WESTWARD AT ABOUT 20 MPH. THERE IS A HIGH CHANCE...90 PERCENT...OF THIS SYSTEM BECOMING A TROPICAL CYCLONE DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS.

John Venneman interviewed in Heavy Lift magazine

hlpfi coverHeavy Lift and Project Forwarding International (HLPFI) magazine wrote about the importance of qualified marine surveyors as a vital component to project cargo risk management in issue eight of HLPFI. Based upon the number of inquiries from that issue, they decided to ask John Venneman of Braemar Marine to elaborate on the subject. John is the director of risk engineering/marine surveyor for Braemar Marine and specialises in project cargo and heavy lift moves.

In the article John warns: "Often the biggest problems is one of complacency. The crews often want to do the minimum possible and, as such, may overlook things. While one would like to think that the carriers will always use the utmost care with any cargo entrusted to them, this is simply not always the case".

A pdf (224kb) of the full article is available by clicking here or by visiting their website www.heavyliftpfi.com.
